WHO IS FELIX ARBOR?

Felix Arbor means "happy trees" in Latin, roughly translated from Google at least.

My name is Aaron Reece, and I am the owner and founder of Felix Arbor Woodworking. I believe in the sentient energy of all living things, animals, plants, and of course trees. ​My late father was a forester, and his father worked in architectural design before working in steel manufacturing. I feel like my woodworking journey is a beautiful combination of my familiale legacy.

My old man could talk your ear off about trees--once when I was assisting him on a timber cruise through a pine farm in Prosperity, SC, he got so excited to see a lumber truck loaded up with poplar that he nearly drove off the side of the road in his old Jeep Willys. We stopped and looked at the lumber and he joyfully informed me that the beautiful purple colorations on the wood were from mineral deposits from a local water source, and could tell when the trees were experiencing a tough winter based off the crooks in their shape and softness of the timber, he taught me a lot about appreciating trees and feeling their energy as a living being. ​

These experiences, as well as my own belief that the world around us is surrounded by energies yet unknown, is why I named my company "Happy Trees." I feel that the life force of a tree may be joyful that it gets to live a new life serving the world around it in a new way it never thought possible. Perhaps a Maple is proud to be a table a family may eat from and bond over. Maybe a Walnut is honored when it becomes an admirable detail of a given space. Perhaps Pine is joyful to become the protective walls and happy habitat of a growing family. This is how I feel about the work I do, I believe the trees are happy if you put joy into them as you work alongside them. And I am grateful for the opportunity to bring joy to the world through serving it with my craft. We should strive to build a happy world, and have happy trees be our companions in it.​
